I am sorry technology has outpaced your industry. I spend thousands of dollars a year on artists who allow the free taping and trading of their live concerts. While I realize this is different than the particular issue at hand, what Gummy Soul did was no different than what _____ did when they originally created their outstanding albums (all of which I purchased legallay ON CASSETTE, along with the wax pressing of the ____ Greatest Hits lp). If you find talented artists (such as the fellows at Gummy Soul) then promote their tours and produce their music using whatever medium the consumer (me) demands. Have fun with this, Goliath... Ben
From the biggest fan of ____: you need to sign and release Bizarre Tribe...officially. The breakup of _____ was heartbreaking, and their lack of output over the last 15 years, is just that. Bizarre Tribe re-ignited our passion for the music that _____, _____, _____, and _____ brought to us. Before you make any stupid decisions, I suggest that you talk with the _____ themselves. New generations don't know jack shit about _____, but this new project can help shed light...AND help your fucking bottom line. Cheers, Jesse
i downloaded Bizarre Tribe for free and think its an awesome piece of work. having read the open letter, i don't feel the use of original samples (as opposed to _____ copyrighted material) warrants legal action on your part and no-one likes a bully. how about employing a more supportive/ celebratory stance? Neil
To whom it may concern, I am a thirty six year old man who has bought countless numbers of CDs, tapes, and Records. I am truly disappointed in your company for two reasons! First, you are unwilling to negotiate with Amerigo Gazaway concerning this record! Compromise is the sign of a evolving corporation and your actions will eventually leave you behind the pack! Second, this guy has undeniable talent and you would be considered blind of you didn't recognize this fact. You shouldn't push him away you should embrace his talent and work with him! He will make your company a lot of money! Omed
To Whom It May Concern: Why would you attempt to put an end to creativity? This project from Gummy Soul is phenomenal and deserves to be heard. As a matter of fact it made the #1 spot on my 2012 list of Top 10 FREE Albums. Free being the word you should pay attention to. This is ridiculous and just seen as a way for majors to grab the last string they are hanging on to by most of us in the industry. I beg of you to reconsider the cease and desist order and allow Gummy Soul and Amerigo Gazaway to exercise their creativity. Top 10 FREE Albums of 2012: http://www.kevinnottingham.
They said they're forwarding a copy of the open letter they sent to you. That's basically all there is to say; you're not missing out on any money, they're not really making any money... I'm just unsure why you guys even chose to make this a big deal. If your objective was to provide small collaborative labels with publicity and an underdog dynamic, then you've fully succeeded. I think you guys expected to make money off of this somehow, but I honestly can't imagine either how or why you thought you'd make money off an album which Gummy Soul made available for free. Clearly, this is either an attempt to stifle musical artistic expression, or an attempt to squeeze money out of it where there is none to be had. Honestly, I thought a major corporation would have more sense than to put paid employees on something like this, but apparently I've been proven wrong. Please stop your cease and desist order so I can once again show my friends one of my favorite albums without breaking the law. Thanks. George
Another way for lawyers to "earn" their money! Get a grip and realize what you're trying to hold back. _____ SAMPLED others, as well. Those "SAMPLES" are not ____ property. Jerry
we as listeners and buyers understand that you as a company need to keep your profits under your contracts with the artists. I'm sending you this e-mail because even understanding your point of view, this is a time that internet has already changed the market, and we, as listeners, are consuming what we want for the first time in history. ad we are producers too, witch is the case of GUMMY SOUL in "Bizarre Tribe". The first time I hear the songs, I loved it and now I can't hear it anymore because of your position about sampling in this case. so, I'm just another girl who loves music, who is coming here to ask you to respect gummy soul for their work. nowadays we live at the REMIX TIME. Start to embrace this idea on your projects and you will see that this benefits you more than keep prohibitions around. thank you. FREE GUMMY SOUL, FREE BIZARRE TRIBE.
A bizarre tribe is the best re-interpretation I've ever heard of two of my all time favourite bands: ____________ and Pharcyde.
Amerigo geniunely offered his complex mix for free on Gummy Soul and that was the best thing that ever hapened. I shared the link with tons of friends all accross the world and was able to push the effort and talent of an amazing artist with just a tweet.
Please _____, be reasonable and cease your legal actions now. You're thinkng big numbers and can't even open your eyes to the future. Music will never be the same, will you ?
Bizarre Tribe is a great collection of music. If anything it got me into __________ as well. Stop being lame, share great music.
Gummy soul's open letter response to your request is the most constructive proposal relating to the tedious copyright infringement debate I have read in a long time. Their suggestion to market their clearly creative project whilst benefiting everyone involved including _____, seems to me constructive for the musical medium at large, and may help the slowly dying music industry to find new ways to re-ignite sales and creativity at the same time.
It's funny how things work in the big Record label world. When smaller and harder working ones get the bad end of the stick.
"INDUSTRY RULE #4080 record companies are Shady"-Q tip
The music industry has changed everybody knows it. Get over your self. Why are you and other labels attempting to stop innovative artist from continue to make music exciting. Stop the B.S.
First, you create rootkits and add them to your CDs w/o consumer knowledge. And now you are kiboshing Gummy Soul's work.
"Music industry rule number 4080 / record company people are shadyyyyy"
...there's nothin more to say.
step your game up.
too late by now tho.
You clearly have no knolwedge of the music you own and the Artists you exploit for profit. If you had even listened to the mixtape maybe you could understand, but instead you just blindly attack the little guys for making music for the love of it and not for the greed. This platform only spreads and gets the word out to others that have not yet discovered the music. In turn it brings people to your catelog and if they want it they will buy it. So ____, after supporting you products for many years because I actually believed in them even though they were overpriced, I will not be supporting your products in the future until drop this lawsuit and blatent display of Cooporate Greed. Thank you
Don't shut down Gummy Soul's Bizarre Tribe album. It IS transformative.
I realy like the _____ products, but in this case, youre company is wrong. A "Bizarre Tribe" is no threat on "the market" - it´s the opposite, it´s like free commercial for youre product(it makes more sense to fight against youtube.. although that wouldn´t be wise neither..) "Bizarre Tribe" is for free and a different product. It´s like a free "re-mix". So there realy is no reason to screw them. It realy could backfire on Sony, as a few people would start to boykott _____, and then their friends, and so on... Maybe _____ should pay THEM, for the rights to sell it (a great product).
Have a nice day,
Thanks for taking time, to read (although i doubt it ;) )
Really _____? You are forcing someone to take down a FREE download??? What's next? Busting someone for singing a cover song in a coffee shop? Companies like yours have (and continue to) run the music industry into the ground. Congratulations, morons.
In Brazil, we have the copyright rules, but who knows good music, knows that a sampler could be a crime, but a passional crime. I see this album like a homage. Think with the heart, not with the dollar.
Do you remember some years ago when you used the Underground Resistance sample without ANY permission?
Read the Gummy Soul letter and get your facts straight!
Why can't you be plain honest instead of killing creativity, time & time again?laszlo
This body of work is in no way competing with or infringing on __________'s music. This is exactly what is wrong with the major label system.
If you spent more money on innovating how people buy music and less money on suing people maybe the majors would have a shot at surviving in the long haul
i believe that amerigo gazaway's bizarre tribe does not violate any copyright standards. please rethink your charges
Your acease and desist issued to Gummy Soul is a fine example of the reason why people no longer buy records. Scouring the internets for anything related to your artists so you can then bully poorer musicians who are paying homage to great artists is misguided and in the long-term will only negatively affect your record label. Free promotion of your artists is a good thing. Think about it.
Purveyor of fine music
_____, please relax your restrictions on this content. You're only harming yourself. Fan generated content only begats more fans. Fans who will want to access the source material, which you own and sell. Consider Gummy Soul a sales channel, not a bootlegger. You're not protecting your property, you're restricting its ability to grow in value.
To whom it may concern,
As a profesional musician of the past decade, I have seen the industry change dramatically. With the rise of the internet musicians are able to share their music with the world at a click of a mouse, slowly eliminating the need for massive , faceless, money hoarding companies such as yourself. Who, in no way at all, actually contribute to the creating of the art form.
You are, at this point, probably a multi-billion dollar corporation, who wish to start a legal battle with a small collective giving away a tiny proportion of your "property" for free? Who ever this gets to, if it gets to anyone, please-for the love of all humanity-think about this logically, don't be a bunch of silly bitches, for once in your lives.
I find your censorship of Amerigo Gazaway's "Bizarre Tribe: A Quest To The Pharcyde" to be an unnecessary and counterproductive slight against individuals who want to be able to enjoy this music.
As has been pointed out in Bizarre Tribe's Open letter, their mix contains less than 3 minutes of ____ samples and thus the only conclusion to make is that your response is a massive overreaction to a mixtape which is clearly an original piece of art in its own right.
I would like to point out that with the proliferation of Torrent sites and streaming websites, record labels such as yourselves are clearly in decline. I could point to plenty of historical examples, whether they be governments, companies or individuals, where the sea of change has either been embraced or fought against. In so many cases, it is those who embrace change and ride the wave who survive when those who protect their traditional sources of power are crushed by the inevitable.
I look forward to watching over your demise and this album will provide an excellent soundtrack.
What Bizarre Tribe has done here is art and it IS original. As a long time fan of __________ and this music if anything has only reignited my passion for their work and after downloading it I actually bought The Lo End Theory cd from Amazon.com
Bizarre Tribe's fans are your fans too, don't disappoint us!
Wow _____ "Bizarre Tribe" is not making money off you guys, and the only thing that could happen is more traffic to "__________" You don't really need to be picking on these guys. You do such a good job with something like freegal, then I see this. Come on.
This is the reason true fans don't support the radio and mainstream artists.Greedy record companies such as yourself that stymie the fan base and keep the current generation in the dark who aren't aware of these true gems.
Stop trying to limit creativity and let others create and be inspired by the music they love.
Not cool, _____. Are we gonna have to call up Seeland Records to spank you people, again?
To Whom This May Concern:
As a far of Pharcyde and A Tribe Called Quest, I truly value the innovative creations and work Gummy Soul has done under the moniker Bizarre Tribe. Please reconsider your cease and desist; their work is covered under fair use and if you considered their appeal to you, Sony could truly benefit from a mutual relationship with this small label. They are contributing to a massive and loyal community of followers and fans that you could also connect with, if you chose to work with, and not litigate with, Gummy Soul. I, as well as their fan base, truly hope you will reconsider your position in regards to the work of Gummy Soul and find an amicable way to allow them to continue creating art with the work of such masters as Pharcyde & ATCQ.
Many thanks for your anticipated time and consideration in this matter,
____ should not take down bizarre tribe simply because the album sounds like the actual ____. I bet ____ does not support sonys actions. The album is FREE. Do not file copy right infringement simply because the big company did not make mulah off of it.
This is actually the most refreshing mash up i've ever heard. If anything, it makes me go back to the Original tribe vibes. Plus, wasnt this a free mixtape?
Please, let us enjoy in real (Bizarre Tribe) music. I realy like The Pharcyde & ATCQ!!! ...Connecting these two groups is perfection for me!!!
You guys (____) are disappointing. Your actions are detrimental to culture at large. Boo.
How dare you banned this sheer celebration of the best rap band ever . It is wrong let the people enjoy it
Even if your threat of legal action had any merit at all in re copyright infringement -- and clearly it does not -- you are on the wrong side of the emerging and evolving way that artists compose, collaborate and perform on the many diverse digital media today. No doubt talented artists (writ large) will continue to do so in the future.
This is an opportunity for ____ to advance its brand and its positioning with new audiences, and as Gummy Soul's response to your letter shows, there are artists who would be pleased to work flexibly with you in a "win-win" manner; expanding the pie, rather than considering growth in the music and entertainment as a zero sum game.
Please, please, please take the time to consider that your initial, knee-jerk (and for all that I know essentially automated) reaction to the fact that one of your artists is mentioned in conjunction with non-____ media, may not in fact represent any infringement upon _____ rights in the copyright of one of your artists.
dear ____ Records,
Regarding your claim against Amerigo Gazaway's Bizarre Tribe:
Please abandon it. the bizarre tribe project is a rare gem: a work of a mastterful and creative genius, a respectful homage to both A Tribe Called Quest (whom you represent or should) and the Pharcyde and a joyful experience. It's shared freely between fans of both bands, amerigo and gummy soul. why upset a lot of hip hop fans? unless you hate hip hop and care only about sales figures which is a possibility but I hope not the case, please abandon your claims.
Regarding figures, if the fact that hip hop fans share this gem is affecting the sales of ____ then concentrating on better marketing rather than trying to prevent a amall independent label from sharing great work might prove a better long term solution. please have some vision and more respect for artists.
come on ____, employ some musicians who show modern music some respect, you're towing a fine line dudes
